Seriously, one of the most brilliant projects of the year and the BEST thing to come out the writer's strike? Nothing??!!??

I've said it before and will say it again, I would watch anything Joss creates, to include a 6 part miniseries of people reading the phone book. ('Cause you know he'd chose the very best talent to READ the phone book!) He is a rare talent - I sincerely hope Fox allows Dollhouse a chance to thrive!!!

Joss has so far created Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Firefly, three of the best, most original and intelligent series that have ever been on television. Not only have all three shows been entertaining and cool, they've all had far deeper things to say than the vast majority of other shows on the air.

The worlds that Joss creates are exciting enough to keep the interest of a generation that was weaned on MTV, as funny as any of the million sitcoms that littler the airwaves, imaginative enough to please the SciFi geeks (a group in which I proudly claim membership), as dramatic and heart-rending as any soap opera, and literate enough to inspire college courses (seriously). So far the only projects of his that haven't blown me away have been films that were taken over and rewritten by someone else (the original Buffy movie and Alien: Resurrection, for example).

Put this man at the helm of any show, movie, comic book, or whatever, and you can bet that I'll be there.

So here's my dream: I somehow come up with enough money to finance Joss Whedon in his own network - one where he will have creative control and where he cannot be cancelled or stymied by short-sighted network executives who cannot understand that some characters and storylines have too much depth to be summed up in a 45 minute pilot.

Because, honestly, anyone who can write "Once More With Feeling," or turn the idea of a western set in outer space into a comic tragic romance of (dare I say?) Shakespearean proportions, plainly deserves to be given funding and released to make of it what he will.

Whedon's new show -- starring Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum Eliza Dushku -- has the green light from Fox, which has ordered seven episodes. While I'm thrilled to see anything Joss does back on a regular basis, it's a damn shame that the show will be on Fox. After all, Fox isn't known for having much patience with new shows with less-than-stellar ratings ("Firefly", "Drive" and "Wonderfalls" come to mind). I'll be watching, no doubt about it, but there's no way I'm getting invested when the network may yank the show at any moment.

In fact, maybe fans should save time and go ahead and start their "Save Dollhouse" campaigns now.

Joss is possibly one of the best writers of our time. His dialogue is witty and his plots are complex and moving. He writes multidimensional characters who the viewer can't help but become invested in. Buffy has sparked philosophical conventions because of the issues he dealt with when writing it, and we all know about the fabase generated by the amazing world he created in Firefly. If his name is on a project, it's guaranteed to be amazing, and I can't wait to see his next venture!
